"Yes, we're going to have these weekly meetings. We're going to learn the skills that you need to teach other people to be safe in the wilderness and when they're on trail, just making sure that it's that consistent reinforcement of this is how we do it safely, this is how we do it respectfully, and this is how we create an environment that's accepting and enjoyable for everyone.
I think those are the pillars of oa. And then secondary to that come the bonding elements like PIs and Rose Thorn and the friendships and the secondary education of learning about the landscapes or the people that inhabited the lands before we got there."

"We went in opposite directions. And so halfway through the trip we were supposed to meet up to have a rest day in the middle and then continue on. And my group was the faster group. And so they sort it into the people that are more comfortable with physical activity and more strenuous days would go with this faster group that does the more intense trail. And our group went up on the Skyline Trail, which the other group wouldn't do. We did have some hiccups, so we ended up reorganizing ourselves and everything. And it wasn't the same groups as we had planned, so we ended up with a green group, which was our melded blue and yellow group, which was really cool and fun to see that the group was adaptable in that way. But I think that's the main thing, just trying to make sure that it's going to be an enjoyable experience for everyone."
