"Done a PI, I think two or three times, and it's been different every time. Sometimes people will get the chance to talk about things that you don't talk about in normal conversation. They just don't come up. So it's a chance to be very vulnerable, to really get to know the people you're with in a very safe and supportive environment. There's something about being on trail with these people, going through the experiences you're making inside jokes, you're doing hard things together. That's a bonding experience. So you have that safety and support and you're able to open up. And then seeing my friends, the new people that I've met, being able to do that, it's just a very special thing that we do and very safe. I don't know. So we leave the trip knowing so much more about each other and knowing that that was a good, inappropriate and safe time to open up and share those things and work closer because of it."

"Close to the end of the trips that I'll do with oa and I'm starting to think about the possibility of doing trips on my own without the club resources and support. I'm just so grateful for all the skills that I've learned and being able to put those into practice. When I first learned what backpacking was, that book that I read when I was 12, I had that goal to through hike that watching trail. I don't know if that's still a goal of mine, but I feel like I could do it now or at least give it a good shot. And to me that's priceless. So it's huge to me that I've had the opportunity to learn about these things, to practice them. It just feels so much more confident and empowered that I can face problems on the trail and off the trail. I could do that."
